I’ve read that plenty of watering is what is best for a lawn if you want to go the natural way. The grass is able to root deeper and choke out the weeks which tend to have shallow roots (that’s why they’re easier to pull than grass.)

Unless your kids are going around licking the grass after you fertilize you shouldn’t have any problems with Scotts products.Just use some common sense.Keep them off the lawn for a few hours and then change their clothes after they come inside from playing.Good grief, hypochondria will destroy ya.

Be careful with the watering: weeds like watering too. Also, too much water will encourage certain weeds, like dollar weeds.

The best thing is to instal high quality grass and take care of it. For instance, I’ve seen VERY FEW weeds in any St. Augustine lawn that has automatic sprinklers.

You should have a landscaping company do it for you. The cost for a treatment is usually equal to what you pay for a bag of weed & feed. Then you will not be as exposed to the chemicals. After a day, you should be able to let the kids run wild again.

Buy a bag of soil conditioner/compost . Spread it lightly over your lawn and water it in. 6 dollors or so for 3 cubic feet at Home Depot
