What is the cheapest, most effective way to market a computer networking service?

Gunz asked:

There are many computer networking services out there that spend hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars marketing their service. They do not necessarily get the most desirable results. What is, or are some ways to market such services, cheaply, and effectively?

Your market will be local - so advertise locally including the yellow pages. Talk to computer stores and offer your services to them - with commission to them.

Focus your marketing. Advertise through a direct mail and telephone sales program directly to the businesses that have the highest propensity to use your services. Eliminate all wastage by knowing the end user. In cost effective marketing it is always critical to know the end users demographics so you can target them in a cost effective mannor. Lists can be purchased with specific demographic criteria if you understand your target.

Look in the Yellow Pages for local businesses that have a web site and might need your services. Go to their web site and get their email address. Email them a helpful message and how they can contact you, or what your own web site is.

Another idea would be businesses registered with the local Chamber of Commerce. Same thing.

Hope it helps some.
